EviTag Water-stable Quantum Dots

EviTags are an exciting new water-stable semiconductor quantum dot technology, developed by Evident Technologies, that is ideal for biotech researchers and reagent developers. Biologically inert and conjugation-ready, these nano-scale particles offer unique optical and chemical characteristics and can be used to develop color multiplexing and single excitation assays. Available with carboxyl or amine terminal groups for conjugation, EviTags range in size between 30-50 nm with multiple reactive functional groups per particle.

Features

  • Common Chemistry Coupling -- Proprietary coating is easily conjugated to oligonucleotides, antibodies and proteins, using well-known, simple chemistries

  • High Stability -- Composed of inert, inorganic compounds coated with a proprietary water-stable coating; resistant to photochemical damage

  • Wide Color Range -- Approximate organic fluor emissions in standard visible wavelengths; colors in the 490-600 nm range can be custom engineered. Additionally, customized colors, unattainable by organic dyes, can be designed

  • Photostability -- Long fluorescence lifetime; easily distinguished from other sources of intrinsic fluorescence in long-period assays

  • Broad Excitation Spectrum -- Excited with broadband excitation sources at any wavelength shorter than EviTag's emission peak; facilitates simultaneous detection and quantification

About EviTags

EviTags are manufactured using EviDot semiconductor nanocrystal technology. EviDots are quantum dots that can be constructed to emit at wavelengths from 350-2500 nm, depending upon the physical size of the nanocrystal. A proprietary coating is applied to these nanocrystals to create water-stable EviTag quantum dots.

EviTag Applications

Attaching ligands to water-stable EviTag nanocrystals yields a highly stable semiconductor material that can be bound to nucleic acids, antibodies and proteins, and enable new forms of assays and detectors for numerous applications.

  • High-throughput screening in micro-fluidic systems

  • Biological activity analysis

  • Cell imaging

  • Molecular biology

  • ELISA assays

  • Pathogen detection

  • Genetic disease detection

Ocean Optics Systems for Use with EviTags

Ocean Optics makes available numerous light sources and filters that can be used to excite EviTag nanocrystals. For instance, the LS-450 LED Excitation source can be used with an LED-380 bulb to produce light at 380 nm and excite the full range of EviTags. For broadband light sources that produce energy above the EviTag's peak emission wavelength, an Ocean Optics Linear Variable Filter (LVF) is suggested. An LVF effectively blocks or passes light between 300-700 nm.

To assemble a complete fluorescence spectrophotometric system for use with EviTags, Ocean Optics recommends its USB2000-FLG Spectrometer and a USB-LS-450 Pulsed LED excitation source.
