Ocean Optics Introduces New Emission Fluorescence SystemFully Integrated Curie Emission Spectrofluorometer Detects Picomolar-range Concentration of Fluorophores in Solutions from 200-850 nmDunedin, Fla., May 2004 – Ocean Optics introduces the Curie Fluorescence System, a versatile, highly sensitive cuvette spectrofluorometer that is capable of detecting picomolar-range concentration of fluorophores in solutions. Available for $8,499, the fully integrated system provides full spectral analysis (2048 wavelengths) over the 200-850 nm range and is distinguished by patented filtering technology that helps to discriminate between the system’s powerful xenon excitation source wavelengths and the weaker spectral emissions from samples. The Curie is ideal for laboratory research in industries including biochemical, biomedical, pharmaceutical and education. Applications include DNA/protein analysis, molecular tagging, QA/QC and water quality analysis. Ocean Optics, Inc. is a diversified electro-optics technology firm and a global leader in optical sensing, display optics and biophotonics technologies. With locations in the United States and Europe, the company serves a wide range of markets, including consumer electronics, environmental monitoring and medical diagnostics. The Curie is ideal for industries including biochemical, biomedical, pharmaceutical and education laboratory research. Applications include DNA/protein analysis, molecular tagging, QA/QC and water quality analysis. The Curie has a high-sensitivity 2048-element CCD-array detector that is coated with an order-sorting filter to eliminate second- and third-order effects. Preloaded with a microcode that allows users to select a delay between activation of the excitation source and the start of the fluorometer’s integration time, it is ideal for measuring fluorophores that have long fluorescence lifetimes, such as lanthanides. The Curie is the only spectrofluorometer with proprietary
built-in linear variable filters. These filters are ideal for spectrally
shaping the excitation energy from the onboard pulsed-xenon lamp, and
eliminate the need for scanning monochromators. Users can move each
filter’s transmission or blocking band throughout UV The Curie’s sample chamber accepts 1-cm square cuvettes, and has a retractable cover to block ambient light. A filter slot accepts additional long-pass or bandpass filters. An onboard compartment is great for storing spare filters and cuvettes. The
Curie’s footprint measures only 13” x 9.3” x 4.75”; the system
interfaces to a PC via a USB port, and is compatible with USB 1.1. All
system parameters are set via the included operating software.
